TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT & QUOTA

Rate Limits & Error Handling

To prevent resource exhaustion, protect infrastructure, and ensure low latency for all consumers, public API calls are subject to strict per-minute sliding window rate limits.

Public Tier Limit1 req / 10 sec

Every external IP address is allocated at most 1 request per 10-second sliding window (maximum 6 calls per minute). If requests are fired more frequently than every 10 seconds, the server immediately returns HTTP 429 Too Many Requests with a Retry-After countdown.

Response HTTP Headers
X-RateLimit-Limit1
X-RateLimit-Remaining0
X-RateLimit-ResetUnix epoch (seconds)
Retry-AfterSeconds to wait (1-10s)
HTTP 429 Too Many Requests
Status: 429
{
  "success": false,
  "error": "Rate limit exceeded. Maximum 1 request per 10 seconds allowed.",
  "message": "Too many requests from this IP. Please wait 7 seconds before retrying.",
  "limit": 1,
  "remaining": 0,
  "retryAfter": 7
}
When encountering a 429 status, pause your requests for the duration indicated by retryAfter or inspect the Retry-After header before re-querying.

DEVELOPER KNOWLEDGE BASE

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Essential integration guides, scoring calibrations, and developer questions regarding the free news sentiment API.

Is the FOMOGRAM News Sentiment API completely free?

Yes. FOMOGRAM provides a 100% free public REST tier. There are no subscription fees, credit cards, or hidden paywalls. Anyone can make up to 1 request per 10-second sliding window without any credentials.

Do I need an API key to access this endpoint?

No API key is required. The public endpoint /api/news is open for direct HTTP GET requests. Simply pass query parameters like ?symbol=BTC or ?limit=20.

How are news sentiment scores calculated?

Sentinel AI evaluates incoming articles against a dual-refereed institutional taxonomy. Scores range from -100 (Extremely Bearish / High Liquidation Risk / Severe Outflows) to +100 (Extremely Bullish / Massive Inflows / Approvals). Speculative commentary and opinion pieces are calibrated to 0 (Neutral).

Which asset classes are supported by the API?

The API continuously monitors over 500 verified sources covering Cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, etc.), Precious Metals & Commodities (Gold XAU, Silver XAG, Brent Oil BZ), US Equities (NVDA, TSLA, AAPL, MSFT, COIN, MSTR), and Borsa İstanbul (BIST).

How do algorithmic trading bots use this data?

Trading algorithms inspect the normalized score and isHardCatalyst boolean fields to trigger event-driven orders, widen stop-losses ahead of high-impact catalysts, or pause automated market making during macro shocks.

What happens if I exceed the rate limit?

If an IP exceeds 1 request per 10 seconds, the server returns HTTP 429 Too Many Requests with a Retry-After countdown header. Simply pause your requests until the countdown expires.
